As I write, ICE agents are attacking another neighborhood and have apparently shot a protester in the leg. All day ICE has been bullying people all over the city and our suburbs. Every time they show up, citizens blow whistles and assemble to resist and record ICE’s actions.
Two hours ago our Governor Tim Walz addressed the people of Minnesota. His message was to the point. Demonstrations must be loud but peaceful. Minnesotans have a legal right to record ICE actions. These recordings are legal evidence and will be used in court. Also, this all due to Trump. He wants chaos and is willing to push cruelty and violence. Walz also said that we need support and comfort each other. And that is happening.
We are Minnesotans and I am proud of my state and city. Across the Twin Cities neighborhoods are mobilizing. Parent groups are forming protective vigils by our schools and monitoring student drop offs, school bus pickup points, and other vulnerable places where students gather. Some schools have gone back to remote learning for anyone who is fearful to leave their homes. Food-shelves have been set up for people that are targets of ICE’s fascist wrath.
The same is occurring in the suburbs. Students across the state are incensed and have taken part in peaceful marches and demonstrations.
One thing is certain, Trump is not our President. He gave surrendered his authority the moment he turned ICE brutality on our nation and our peaceful citizens.
Everywhere I look I see Americans showing discipline, courage, and peaceful resistance against undisciplined, cowardly, bullies who attack us. They are thugs. They are some of the worst of us.
Earlier Trump said that “retribution” was coming to Minneapolis. He just didn’t understand who it will be visited upon.
State GOP politicians continue to support this coup’s violence. The coming election is our chance to clean house and replace them with people of good will, courage, and compassion.
This is our time to show the US and the World that Minnesotans are a free and caring people.
