I’ve read our business leaders’ plea for de-escalation. And I’ve been giving much thought to what I am assuming is their heartfelt request. I salute them for engaging in Minnesota’s struggle.
As a Minnesotan and American I have a few questions.
You address the Trump administration and our state leaders, Gov. Walz and Mayor Frey and our state and federal elected representatives.
What do you mean by de-escalate? And who should do what?
Realistically, how far can Trump and his Administration and Minnesotans de-escalate? For Trump it would require ending the torrent of lies and incendiary statements made against citizens exercising their God Given Rights. Ideally, de-escalation would involve the removal of ICE and ending the lawlessness, violence, and murder that ICE has brought to our communities.
For Minnesota, it would require our elected officials to stop expressing their serious alarm about ICE’s rampage in the Twin Cities and our state. For Minnesotans it would require surrendering their duty and right to peacefully observe and record ICE’s criminal actions. We would have to give up our weapons, F-Bombs and snowballs.
Our business leaders suggest what? A fair, balanced, calming? Trump and feds stop using chemical weapons, flash-bang grenades, physical abuse, kidnaping, and interfering with due process of law? And Minnesotans give up their Right to Assemble, Right to Free Speech, and the human right to care for our neighbors and friends?
I understand that our CEOs have a difficult job. They have to protect their investors, maintain good relationships within their industries, run a massive company, stay in the good graces with consumers, and make money.
I’m not certain what comes first.
Our founders demonstrated their commitment to our nation by risking their freedom, wealth and lives. To remove the oppression of a King; they were all in. Today we face the same decision. Americans and CEOs can’t finesse our way out of this crisis. Today is not time for business as usual.
To our CEOs I am warmed by your concern. Now what are you going to do?
