Becky Olson: A Life of Loving and Giving

Becky Olson
Becky, Claude Monet’s Garden, September 1998

Becky Olson was a unique and caring woman, who over the period of her life gave of herself and made the world a better place. This page is to honor her memory and to share her loving spirit.

Guided Images, Guided Healing

During her journey through life, Becky had a private practice counseling women on issues of anxiety, self-esteem, and self-destructive behavior. As a licensed social worker and trained in hypnosis, Becky taught her clients Guided Imagery Healing, a form of self-hypnosis. She created a tape Guided Images, Guided Healing to help the listener induce a state of relaxation in which they can identify their concerns and feelings, and then release them.

Following her spirit, these sessions are free to download. For more information and to download go to Guided Images, Guided Healing.

When The Spirits Arrive

In 1999, Becky Olson completed her memoir, When The Spirits Arrive. In it she shares her spiritual journey that led her to where she was most needed, as a Hospice Social Worker, and to lessons the dying could teach. Dying ties all of us together with the loss of loved ones and, in the end, our own coming to terms with our mortality. It is during these times that we need someone to guide us through the turmoil and pain, making certain that the dying, caregivers, family and friends are given the care they need. Becky was such a guide. It was her calling.

When The Spirits Arrive is currently being prepared as a digital book and will be posted here by the end of January, 2022.

Backstory

My name is Les Phillips and I am fortunate to have been Becky’s husband and life partner for almost 37 years. She died of breast cancer on June 9th, 2012, just a week before our 36th anniversary. Throughout our years together, Becky worked to make the world a better place. And for those she knew and served, she did just that. She could feel others pain, knew where it came from, and did what she could to relieve their suffering. She showed me what caring and dedication meant. Because of her, I grew more aware, imperfectly, of the unique paths each of us travel.

In November, 2021, a woman called me asking if Becky had any of her Guided Imagery, Guided Healing tapes. I told her that Becky had died nine years ago and that I didn’t think that there were any tapes left. She was obviously disappointed, telling me that she listened to Becky’s tape frequently. It was helpful and soothing. Unfortunately, the tape had finally worn out and she was hoping to find another.

After the call, I looked everywhere until I went to the most obvious place, the memory box I’d created to hold mementos from Becky’s life. There was the last tape, still in it’s original wrapping. At that instant I decided to have it digitized and make it available online. Along with the tape was her memoir’s completed manuscript. Reading through it, I realized that it too should be made into a digital book and posted.

Why I hadn’t done this years before? I don’t know. Again, it was so obvious.
